Calchaquí Valley Malbec 2023, Amalaya, Salta, Argentina

Description The Amalaya wines are fruit-driven in style, with a finesse that unites them. They offer incredible value for their quality and truly reflect their ‘sense of place’. The Malbec has a touch of spice alongside intense berry aromas, as 25% of the wine was aged in second-use French oak for eight months. It is a brilliant ruby colour with purple edges. The nose boasts aromas of ripe strawberry and raspberry, with floral notes and subtle hints of pepper and spice. Flavours of red fruit, spice and vanilla fill the mouth, and the well-integrated tannins are balanced beautifully by an elegant freshness. The 2023 vintage was recently awarded 91 points, silver medal, at the Decanter World Wine Awards, describing this vintage as “exotic and rather interesting on the nose, aromas of spices, sour cherries and vegetal nuances. Lush and smooth, gentle tannins.”
