Description Organic Monastrell 2024, Bodegas Castaño, Yecla, Spain Winemaker / Producer: Bodegas Castaño has championed the production of the magical Monastrell variety for many years. Monastrell is an indigenous Spanish variety which is often likened to Syrah with its spicy, ripe and plummy character. Vineyard & Winemaking: The fruit is sourced from the Bodegas’ 336 hectare organic vineyards, located at an elevation of 750 metres above sea level in the Yecla appellation of Murcia. Dry, sunny weather and specific soil conditions at this altitude give little chance for mould or pests to thrive, allowing a pesticide-free and agrochemical-free crop every year. Tasting Notes: The result is a deeply coloured yet supple and very satisfying organic red wine with oodles of spicy, plummy bramble fruit and a whiff of black pepper. Food Pairing: Perfect with lamb chops or a smoky beef burger. This Monastrell Yecla also pairs beautifully with spiced lamb tagine and hearty meat stews.
