Description A clear tall glass Ball mason jar with bail top glass lid. Ball is written on the front in script with Ideal in block capital letters and Pat’d July 14 1908. There are a few surface scratches as shown in the photographs but no cracks seen. As we have a few of these in stock, the one pictured here isn’t necessarily the one you will get. It may have a slightly different lid. Please check the photographs. They are all the same glass style but the design on the top may differ. Script Ball without underscore and is plainly written – 1923-1933 so even though the jar says patented in 1908, these jars were made between 1923 and 1933. Ball Mason jars are iconic American kitchen storage jars. Production started in the mid 1800’s.  Before the age of freezers the housewife preserved all her fruit, pickles and vegetables in these jars.  Therefore all kitchens had lots of these.  The most popular sizes were the Half Gallon, the Quart and the Pint.  There were 2 other sizes, the rare Half pint and the 3 Pint (known as the moonshiners jar, as that is what they generally used). Please remember when buying vintage items, they will have signs of use but that is also what makes them so unique.  We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can.  If you have any questions about a particular item, please contact us. Please take the time to look at all pictures. Product Code: 31142/CON Styling: Ball mason jars are great display piece for the kitchen at home or table dressing at weddings, events, bars, cafes and restaurants, look great on shelves just as display or filled with anything from cotton balls and fairy lights to craft items and anything else you can think of. Use in your kitchen to store rice or pasta or any other dry ingredient.
