Vintage English Crown Devon Friendship Trinket Dish

Description A vintage small trinket dish by the Crown Devon Potteries. This dish is from the ‘Friendship Series’ and features Miss Mouse sitting upon a toadstool surrounded by flowers and butterflies. Underneath the picture is the script ‘Friends who share are friends who care’. The dish has a lovely fluted edge with gold gilding along the top. There is a bit of surface wear to the gilding in places as can be seen in the photographs, but no chips or cracks noted. The Crown Devon journey began in 1870 when Simon Fielding invested in the Railway Works on Sutherland Street, Stoke on Trent, but within a short period of time the bailiffs came in and the firm was rescued by Simon’s son, Abraham. They then began to produce the popular Majolica glazed pottery under the S. Fielding & Co backstamp. Fielding used the trade name Crown Devon, and from the early 1930s the Crown Devon mark – a crown over the words Crown Devon – became emblematic of the company, which sometimes appears without the Fielding name. The factory carried on producing a vast range of wares and colours for over a hundred years, the factory unfortunately closed its doors in 1982 due to the gradual decline of the British pottery industry during the 1970s, along with the hit of the recession.
